- OPTIONAL EXTRAS:
-
- font:
- Chico is an original font based on Chicago. I liked the look of Chicago with
- Hardware 1.5 but it didn’t have enough character (no pun intended).
- Install Chico just like any other font. (Come on you know how)
-
- patterns:
- Open your Desktop Patterns control panel. Drag the Desktop Pattern and the
- Utilities Pattern one at a time onto the Desktop Patterns control panel.
- Choose the Desktop Pattern by clicking the button in the control panel.
- Choose the Utilities Pattern by option-clicking the button in the control panel.
-
- deskpicture files:
- To snaz up the ol’ desktop even more I’ve included 3 pict files to be used with
- DeskPicture by Michael Peirce which can be obtained at
- MacUser’s Software Central
- http://www1.zdnet.com/macuser/software/
- Included are three PICT files: Bar1, Bar2, and Nut. These files are designed to
- integrate into the Desktop Pattern also included. Using DeskPicture, put Bar1
- at the very top of your screen (but below where the menu bar is). put Bar2 at
- the real very bottom of your screen. Use the Crop Picture option on both Bar1
- and Bar2. Place a copy of Nut near all four corners of the screen. Use your cursor
- keys to line up the pattern in Nut with the background pattern.
-
- extra icons:
- Hardware 1.5 has replacement system icons built-in. But I’ve included a
- a few extras cuz I’m that kind of guy.
-
- hardware folder resources:
- For other folder icons I have included this file.
- Hardware Folder Resources is for use with Folder Icon Maker 1.5
- by Gregory M. Robbins. Folder Icon Maker 1.5 also can be obtained at
- MacUser’s Software Central.
- Follow the directions of Folder Icon Maker 1.5 to use.
-
- startup screen:
- place the StartupScreen in your system folder.
- (More advanced users may wish to consider use of the
- StartUp PICT Resources listed below.)
-
-
- ADVANCED STUFF:
-
- *WARNING* These advanced features requires ResEdit and more importantly
- a healthy working knowledge of ResEdit. Be warned.
-
- cursor resource:
- Obtain Color Cursor By Matthias Urlichs.
- It can be found in MacUser’s Software Central
- http://www1.zdnet.com/macuser/software/
-
- Use ResEdit to replace the Color Cursor Resource of Color Cursor with
- the resource included with Hardware 1.5
-
- *DOUBLE-ACTION WARNING* This start up resource requires changing
- the resources of your system files. Back up your system files before you
- go messing with them. If this seems at all scary to you (as it should), maybe
- you should just stick to the start up screen listed above.
-
- startup pict resource:
- First as mentioned above, make a duplicate of your system file.
- Open the duplicate in ResEdit.
- Next Open the StartUp PICT Resource file included with Hardware 1.5.
- Open the PICT resource in the Start-Up PICT Resource file.
- Select All of the pictures and copy them.
- Open the PICT resource in the duplicate of your System file.
- Paste the pictures into your System PICT resource.
- If all is going well, ResEdit will ask you if you want to replace the resources.
- Choose replace.
- Save the changes to your System file.
- Quit ResEdit.
- Move your original System file to another folder where it will be safe.
- Rename the duplicate to “System”.
- Restart your computer to see the changes.
-
- (note: some system may need the PICT resources change in the System Update also.)
